The Reno Tahoe International Art Show: Tips and Tricks to make it your best show of the year.
I've just wrapped up the second annual Reno Tahoe International Art Show, and I'm thrilled to share some insights I've gained from both the inaugural event in 2022 and this year's gathering in September. These valuable lessons have not only enriched my personal experience but have also significantly benefited my business. Now that the 2023 edition has concluded, I'm eager to shed light on how this event transformed from being merely "fun" to becoming an absolute must-attend occasion!
Number One - Collect Email Addresses for Your Business
One of the most effective ways to leverage the exposure gained from such a large audience is to establish connections with these individuals after the show. Both years, I implemented a strategy by placing a sign-up book on my table for attendees to share their email addresses. Additionally, I observed another artist successfully running a giveaway that required participants to submit their emails for entry. I found this approach to be quite strategic, and I fully intend to incorporate this idea into my plans for next year!
Number Two - Invest in a Display Table
While the event organizers provide shelving for each artist, in my first year, one of my biggest regrets was not having a display table. This decision had two significant drawbacks. Firstly, it limited the number of pieces I could bring for sale, consequently restricting the range of price points I could offer. It's crucial to have standout, eye-catching pieces that leave a lasting impression, but it's equally important to provide items that cater to impulse buyers, those who fall in love with something and can purchase it without hesitation.
Having a table afforded me the ability to present both high-dollar items and more affordable options, such as $100 earrings for the casual shopper. Moreover, it provided a convenient space for people to set down their belongings. This was particularly useful for customers trying on jewelry; they needed a place to rest their drinks or miscellaneous items. I made sure there was an open space in the center of my table for this purpose, and it made a significant difference in encouraging people to try on items. Always strive to make the shopping experience as seamless as possible, and your customers will respond with enthusiasm!
Number Three - Keep Occupied During Downtime
The Reno Tahoe International Art Show spans many hours, including the VIP night, and you can expect to be present for over 25 hours in total. To maximize your time, consider bringing a project to work on during downtimes. Art enthusiasts often appreciate witnessing the creative process as a piece comes together. Moreover, it creates a more inviting atmosphere, eliminating the awkward moments of staring and smiling as people approach or pass by your booth. Additionally, this can lead to having new work to showcase by the end of the weekend!
Number Four - Forge Connections with Fellow Artists
One of the highlights of the RTIA event is the opportunity to be surrounded by fellow artists. Some of my most memorable conversations have taken place with my booth mates during these shows. Taking the time to introduce yourself and engage with your neighboring artists from the outset can enhance your overall experience significantly.
In conclusion, the Reno Tahoe International Art Show has become my favorite event of the year in Reno. Our community is incredibly fortunate to host such an event in our city. I wholeheartedly recommend marking it on your calendar, rounding up some friends, and attending as many of the talks, movies, and musical performances as possible. See you in 2024, RTIA!
